History

High up on the cliff, almost in the clouds, a fort named Sokol (hawk) was built overlooking the Konavle region. Because of it's significance  and the fact it guarded the pass towards the Bosnian hinterland, the Republic of Dubrovnik decided it was strategically important enough to buy it, rebuild, strengthen it and make it useful guarding it's large territory. Sokol fort was recently restored and opened for visitors. Rising over Konavle, Sokol fort is the perfect example of the Republic 'showing off' to anyone who even thought of claiming their territory.
